Mobile-friendly algorithm update:

Mobile Geddon update was launched in 2015 and all the site owners took a step forward to move their sites to responsive design. Then a mobile-friendly algorithm was updated in 2016 to boost the mobile design but the impact was considerably low than before.

Penguin 4.0 update:

The penguin 4.0 update was launched in September, but this time the update devalues the bad links instead of penalizing sites. It can be called as gentle penguin update in 2016 and the sites also saw a recovery.

Possum Update:

Seo community people experienced a big shake in local rankings and maps in September 2016, but the Google never confirmed the update.

Google is taking large steps to launch mobile first company. In November google announced its making of mobile version as default for ranking instead of desktop version.
